Smart Lemming Diary: Action Items for VAR and 45-Day Plan

project-planJuly 12, 2005

My call with Tom wasn’t as productive, as I would have liked it. I can’t start working for him until next Monday, since I have two deliverables this week for the new Web site. He’s been more than understanding, which is refreshing. I’m considering flying my Mother down from Alaska rather than fly up there, so I can be around through the end of July. I mentioned this option and he really didn’t want me to change my plans on account of him.

Tom also insisted that I keep track of my hours that I work, so I can get compensated, repeating himself three times on this point. We kept things loose for now, but he’ll push back some of the VAR sales and marketing plan deadlines, until I become available next week.

Action Items for Me

While the call with Tom wasn’t productive, I’ll have to get organized next week. I need to remind him to send me key information, so I can start the market requirements documents. I need to work out positioning, review his pricing, identify collateral, review the marketing plan, sales promotions, and trade shows identified. I’ll have to start working on the Web demo or review the demo script, not sure here. I’ll have to just start from square one.

45/90 Day Plan

I’ll also need to identify my 45 and 90 day action plans. Tom wants a 45-day plan for initial performance. I’ll also have a 90-day. I’ll probably work on this on my own time, not tracking hours for this task. I need to review my direct marketing stuff again, since I haven’t done direct marketing for some time. I’ll review the VAR’s direct marketing efforts, but still, I want to brush up on this. I just wish I didn’t have to start working on August 1st; it’s such a bummer. I needed more time off, especially after working at my last employer. I haven’t had down time, since I’ve been busy building new Web site.

The Smart Lemming Diary is a series that chronicles a journey of laid-off worker, who becomes a Vice President of Sales Operations & Marketing for a small entrepreneurial healthcare technology company.
