23 Ways to be Happy at Work: #13 - Don’t worry
Do you worry about everything at work? Life is too short to worry all the time. Worrying about work shouldn’t be all consuming. Sometimes it manifests into annoying behaviors, like badgering or harassing someone with our worries. I know I’m annoying when I’m worried because I’ll obsess over it as I work through scenarios, while I verbalize my processing because I sometimes need to hear myself think through the problem.
What can you do about the things you do worry about? For me, when I worry, it means I feel powerless in the situation or have little or no control. See a theme for me? Control is a big deal for me. Learning how to relinquish it takes vigilance on my part. I am constantly battling low-level anxiety when I’m not in control of something.
List what you consistently worry about
What worries do you have at work? Can you influence, affect, or change these things? If you can’t influence the cause or your worries, how can you reduce your anxiety? Finding ways to cope or modifying your worrying improves your quality of life. Your personal time isn’t robbed by worrying about your work time. You become happier by learning how to worry less.
