Smart Lemming Diary: Former Sales Colleague Interviews Well
August 16, 2005
My former sales coworker, Jamie, flew in Sunday night for Monday interviews. She met with Tom first. whom she had to convince that working remotely from her home office was effective. Jamie sold over $4 million in products for our last employer. Tom liked her. Until he’s fixes the sales compensation plan, he won’t be able to make her an offer, assuming everyone on the loop agrees on her. The commission structure and percentage is off. I took Jamie to lunch. She made it clear that she loves the company, people, and Tom.
Sales Compensation Package
The stock options are a big deal for her and it was a key recruiting point that Tom would like to flip the company with all his employees make money. Today, I’m sure Tom will get all of us together to discuss whether to give her an offer.
Jonathan’s Deadlines is EOD Today
The other key hire we’re trying to recruit for my direct report is Jonathan for a marketing position. Tom gave him the deadline of end of day today, as a way to get a response from Jonathan on whether or not he’s going to accept or decline the offer. Tom did tell me that if Jonathan declines because the salary is a little too low, then he was willing to increase it. We’ve given Jonathan a very good deal that he would never find at another company in our product category. I hope Jonathan adjusts his expectations that living in the city are different from in small towns. We’ll see how the day unfolds. I guess I’ll know by 5:00 pm PST today.
The Smart Lemming Diary is a series that chronicles a journey of laid-off worker, who becomes a Vice President of Sales Operations & Marketing for a small entrepreneurial healthcare technology company.
