Use the 8 Step Process to Manage Emotions by David Lorenzo
Emotions running away with you at work? Are your coworkers walking on eggshells because they’re not how you’ll react? Will you be able to think strategically about your career if you’re too emotional? For people who want to become a strategic thinker, then try David Lorenzo’s eight-step process to manage your emotions so you can have a cool head:
- Disassociate yourself: Completely detached from the circumstances surround the situation.
- Define specific outcomes: Identify a plan and an ideal outcome that you want to accomplish.
- Acknowledge your instincts: Acknowledge your feelings that you have about the problem or the desired outcome.
- Research the problem: Identify the root cause of the problem. Get to the heart of the problem so you can take few steps as possible to achieve your goal.
- Recognize patterns: Look for patterns in the contributing factors of the problem and list options to achieve your goal.
- Generate alternatives: Because you’re apt to react with more emotion if you’re backed into a corner, generate options.
- Assess risk: Evaluate options for risk to determine the amount of risk and the probability that negative consequences will occur.
- Select a solution: Select option that will help you achieve your goal or solve problem that allows you to minimize your risk.
