The Trouble with Career Development Books, except Career Intensity

Most career development books are just high-level, job search recommendations for the typical job seeker. These books are great intros or starting points for new careerists by providing the basics on how to get the job you want or how to work with people. We all have to start somewhere so these books fit the bill.

But what’s in the Black Box?
However, most “how-to” guides don’t explain all the nuances of why you should do it their way, completely bypassing the subtle, advanced strategies and techniques required to be effective and successful in managing one’s career. These high-level books have breadth, but not depth. When I speak of “depth,” I’m referring to the secret lessons learned in managing one’s career after years of experience.

One of the Best Career Management Books – Career Intensity
After reading these generalist books, I’m always thinking, “I’d hate to be new in my career, relying only on this information.” Years ago, I wish I would have read a book like Career Intensity: Business Strategy for Workplace Warriors and Entrepreneurs, so I could have learned the secrets and lessons learned in career management right out of the gate. As a knowledge worker who worked their way up the ranks to VP and then became a startup co-founder, I was always looking for more reading material on the career management. It describes how issues, like our fear of failure or being too emotional, can hold us back from reaching our potential. It gives us tools to overcome these issues so we can move onto to success. Lorenzo also explains that we must have the right mindset by becoming a strategic thinker as we managing our career. Lorenzo shares how top performers became top performers with the right frameworks for the right career situation.

So if you’re a newbie or you’ve been managing your career for awhile, then buy Career Intensity; it’s a good investment in your career. Rarely, do I find a career development and career management book that meets my expectations like Career Intensity has. Buy the book.
