The tenth of the 12 self-management strategies is to not make rushed decisions. Whenever you need to make a decision, take the time to identify the exact thing you are trying to decide, especially if you’re trying to decide on changing jobs within your existing company or changing jobs to go to a another company. Take the time to build a decision model to see the potential effects of your options.

Use Decision-making Models
Build a decision model so you can rank the pros and cons of possible decisions. Try using decision-making models typically used in business such as:

  1. SWOT Analysis
  2. Cost-benefit analysis
  3. Decision trees
  4. Grid Analysis
  5. Scenario analysis

Now, Make the Decision
After you’ve completed your decision model, review it to see what options you have. Hopefully, you’ll make the best decision possible. By slowing down, having the discipline to use a decision-making model to assist you, you’ll be able to make the right decision under non-rushed circumstances.
